Widow & Widower's Exemption
$5,000 Widow or Widower’s Exemption: Any widow or widower who is a permanent Florida resident may claim this exemption (FLORIDA STATUTE 196.202). If the widow or widower remarries, she or he is no longer eligible. If the husband and wife were divorced before his or her death, they are not considered a widow or widower. You will be asked to produce a death certificate when filing for the first time.
