Military/Veteran's Exemption
MILITARY EXEMPTIONS
Active Military Benefit Rental Of Homestead Property
Under certain circumstances Active Military members who have homestead and receive military orders transferring them to another duty station out of the area may rent out their property and still continue to receive homestead exemption. The service member must submit a copy of their orders. (FLORIDA STATUTE 196.061)
Deployed Military Exemption
Applicant must complete an application (DR-501M) and show proof of deployment, including beginning and ending dates from the Veteran’s Administration or military branch. (FLORIDA STATUTE 196.173)
VETERAN’S EXEMPTIONS
Service Connected Disability ($5,000)
Applicant must submit a letter from the Veteran’s Administration stating the percentage of service connected disability and decision date (10% or more). (FLORIDA STATUTE 196.24)
Service Connected Disability (Total Exemption)
Applicant must submit a letter that states Total and Permanent from the Veteran’s Administration as proof of service-connected total and permanent disability and decision date. (FLORIDA STATUTE 196.081)
Combat Related Disability Discount (Percentage Of Disability)
Applicant must be 65 years of age as of January 1, be an honorable discharged veteran and have a “combat related disability” from the Veterans Administration. Applicant must submit an application (DR 501DV) and a copy of their certificate of release or discharge from active duty (DD 214). (FLORIDA STATUTE 196.082)
Service Connected Spouse Disability ($5,000 – Total Exemption)
Applicant must be a spouse of a deceased Service Connected Disabled Veteran who was married for 5 years or more. You must submit a letter from the Veterans Administration stating the percentage of service connected disability (10% or more) of the deceased spouse.
